Environmental Management & Remediation

Hunter Nolen started working in environmental remediation on a wood treating site on the Ellis 1 Unit, maximum security prison in Huntsville, Texas in 1987. The site was historically used by inmate “trustees” to treat construction timber for use on the prison grounds. Here and elsewhere, the early days of industrial processing did not typically include good waste management practices. At the time of my experience at Ellis 1, the field of environmental remediation was still nascent (CERCLA “Superfund” law had only been in effect since 1980) and the buzz words of the day were “delineating the nature and extent of contamination.”  Working as a young project manager with some of the most seasoned and renowned hydrogeologists, geochemists, and toxicologists in the industry ingrained in me a project management style of “mining” brainpower from project participants while respectfully guiding them to deliver their expertise logically, on time, and on budget.  During the U.S. savings & loan crisis of the late 1980s, I managed some of the largest environmental due diligence projects in the country, motivated by the young CERCLA regulations. Starting in 1988 I managed remediation at numerous federal Superfund sites in multiple US states across the western half of the US and Gulf Coast. From this range of experience, HNC brings remediation management solutions to clients.
